Tae Kwon-Dosh for meningitis Local primary school teacher and second degree black belt, Kevin Kerr, has helped raise nearly £10,000 for national charity, Meningitis Research Foundation. Kevin is a member of the South West division of the Tae Kwon-Do Association Great Britain (TAGB), who held a month of fundraising throughout February for the Charity, and helped raise awareness of meningitis and septicaemia - the blood poisoning form of the disease. Clubs from Basingstoke to Cornwall took part in a variety of events, including an exhausting 24 hour training session in Basingstoke.
Kevin who helped organise the 'Meningitis Month' said, "It has been a lot of fun, and we are all delighted that we have helped raise awareness of meningitis and septicaemia, and raise vital funds for the Foundation to help in its fight against these devastating diseases. I know only too well how frightening meningitis can be, because my nine year old daughter, Lauren, contracted the disease at just 20 months old, and thankfully recovered."
As Meningitis Research Foundation relies almost entirely upon voluntary donations to fund its crucial work, we are extremely grateful to the Tae Kwon-Do Association Great Britain for all their hard work over the last month. The money they have raised will help Meningitis Research Foundation step closer towards its vision of a world free from meningitis and septicaemia by funding vital scientific research into the prevention, detection and treatment of meningitis and septicaemia, raising awareness of the diseases and offering support to those affected.
