Chief
Instructor: Ron Sergiew
My name is Ron Sergiew and I am currently a 7th dan with the
T.A.G.B.. I started with tae kwon-do from the word go, although
in those early days I did like to train in various Karate
and Kung Fu clubs just for the experience of sparring with
those different styles. Initially my interests lay in competition
of any sorts and training, purely for enjoyment. Most of my
competition ambitions were achieved having taken part in five
World Championship and placing in all of them, twice at 1st
place.
A star in the field of competition that deserves a mention
is Kenny Walton, whom I first met when he was a young up and
coming competition fighter. This was at the British Championships
in 1977 and I still delight in reminding him of how I soundly
beat him in the finals (I think you will find that he would
strongly disagree with that.) History is history Kenny!
It was a real challenge to all of us when the T.A.G.B. was
formed. We never thought that it would be anything more than
a small association of people, training and running our affairs
the way we saw fit. It was later to prove the best thing to
happen to tae kwon-do in the country and I was very pleased
to be part of it.
As a founder member, I am T.A.G.B. treasurer and represent
the Central England North Area on the committee. My input
also includes duties on the Coloured belt and Black Belt Grading
Examiners Board.
The T.A.G.B. is run by a committee of eight people. The success
of our group lies in the diverse characters and talents of
these people with a huge amount of experience all pulling
together with the same goal in mind. That goal is the success
and expansion of the T.A.G.B. to the benefit of its members.
The founder members of the association are not only colleagues,
but loyal friends with a common purpose and that is something
not easily come by these days.
Have I got any ambitions left? Certainly, its just to keep
on training every day with people like, Dave Oliver, Paul
Donnelly, Don Atkins etc, and working for the Association
with those people that have helped me, help the T.A.G.B. become
what it is today.
For all those new students out these who look at tae kwon-do
as a sport you cannot be better looked after than an association
with a World Championship winning squad. Travel the world
where ALL expenses are met by the T.A.G.B. and find a huge
agenda of international and national competition.
For those new students out there looking for a martial art
you cannot better the pooled experience of senior grade instructors
within our group.
If you want to be a success join those who have repeatedly
succeeded!
